Episode Outtake: Born To Run

Feet up, and running shoes off, Maura watched the busy activity around her as the Rizzoli family made dinner. They talked over one another. They were loud. They were brash. Maura loved being in the center of every minute of it.

Mrs. Rizzoli, who had insisted Maura call her Angela, was sautéing vegetables to be mixed with what Jane had told her was the best cannellini bean recipe ever. Frankie, Jane’s brother, waved his hands in almost frantic motions as he argued with his father over some sort of tomato sauce recipe. Frank Senior, adamantly defended his point as he made small adjustments to Jane’s television set, stating occasionally that cable prices were a crime.

Jane, who sat beside her on the sofa with a glass of a really nice red wine, would occasionally make comments towards each conversation. Every once and a while she’d pause to take a sip or fill Maura’s glass with the bottle that sat on the coffee table in front of them. Maura wondered how Jane was able to follow everything and manage to get slightly tipsy as well.

Currently the argument or conversation, or both Maura really couldn’t tell, was if Frankie should be sent to the 24 hour store for Spumoni. Angela was saying something about special occasions and how it was absolutely needed. Maura wasn’t exactly sure, she may have been a little tipsy herself.

As she listened to the boisterous family around her a smile formed on Maura’s lips. Out of the corner of her eye she caught Jane watching her as the dark haired woman took a drink from her wine glass.

“What’s that look for?”

“Oh, just thinking.”

“You’re always thinking.”

“Mm, everyone is technically always thinking, Jane. Now, drink some water.”

The Rizzoli family conversation settling around them Jane grinned at her and picked up the water bottle to sip at it offering to even more wine in both of their glasses.

As a comfortable warmth settled over her Maura thought this was much better than ice cream.
