Swedish Time! Bork, Bork, Bork!

I've been hardly here on Dream Width other than to look at my reading page this past year. I've been writing in my other blog more often than not on Blogger at Always Just A Cook and as usual, I've got too many things on my mind to focus on most of them. :)

Right now, my current project is my "Around the World in 52 Cuisines". I started the first of this year (2012) with cooking a different cuisine for the household each week, for 52 weeks (i.e.. one each week for a year). So far it's been going well and this week we've gotten to the Norse world and in particular Sweden. Tonight meal consisted of Lamb and Cabbage Stew along with a sort of trifle type desert that is oddly named "Veiled Farm Girls". I couldn't resist. ;)

comments

when good tv shows do you wrong

Dear Sherlock,

I really do love you. Really, i do. However you are taking up way to much time in my mind right now. What with all the over lying plot twists and turns that i've been seeing in my mind after our family's two episode marathon with you.

I know, i know. It's all part of the game and that everything will be made better once we watch the next and final episode tomorrow night. If the children behave that long to allow us one more night of unabashed calm and peacefulness. Or, rather as calm as two hormonal teenage boys can be in the middle of their periods.

So, if you could please refrain from taking up much of the thought process in my brain that would be lovely. I do after all have three recipes, four equations (though one is only a simple quadratic), three books, two stories, and the usual detritus of sedation processing ring on right now. Also, i really need to get some sleep tonight.

Much love,
Me

comments

The Hunt For...

Much like a sneaky Russian sub 20 leagues under the sea I've been searching for an all inclusive podcast hosting and blogging site. Having just <del>wasted</del> spent two hours trying to get Podbean.com to work I'm reading for my close up Mr. DeMille...with a double of whiskey.

It's either that or pull my hair out. Given that I have lesbian hair cut no. 2 (TM), I don't think loosing any more hair is an option. Especially since the last time I went completely shorn cat_77 wouldn't be seen in public with me till it grew out.

So, any of you podcast out there and host off site? I'd love to know what service you use.

Many thanks!

comments

We are home from a long CONvergence weekend. cat_77 talks about it here.

I had a chance finally (yes, some of it was procrastination, you say that like it's a bad thing...) to watch Rizzoli & Isles. I've got several notes for the last two fanfics in my Rizzoli & Isles series to start writing them up. Hopefully some time this week if all things good within the universe converge correctly.

I also have an idea for an In Plain Sight fanfic with a Mary/Delia. Just waiting on posting for my Rizzoli fic as my beta (cat_77) is currently working on a Fringe big bang fic.

comments

Original Fiction: Jack & Jill

This is an original fiction story I started writing two years ago. I'm on the second 'book' of it now but decided to start posting what I've done for book one here. The characters are from the bits and pieces of my consciousness, the setting is my home town. A few liberties have been taken with both.

Comments are greatly appreciated.

Title: Jack & Jill
Author: wolfie74
Rating: R
Disclaimer: My peoples, my city (TM)
( Jack & Jill : Chapter 1 )

( Jack & Jill : Chapter 2 )

comments

My First Scifi Show

Was Doctor Who. I was very young when the local PBS station picked up a few of the British Broad Casting House shows for the first time. They didn't start with the first episodes of the series. Instead it jumped right into the fourth doctor. At the time there weren't many episodes out so PBS would also broadcast episodes of the third doctor as well.
( Edited for length )

Yesterday Nicolas Courtney, the man who played this first military officer I had ever know, passed away. He was 81 and evidently going through his own battle with cancer. By all accounts a gentle man who enjoyed acting and life.

Farewell Brigadier. I'm sure we'll speak again some time.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart: I'm finding it difficult to keep up with all of you these days, Doctor.

The Doctor: Some other time eh, Brigadier? Alas there's no time for pleasantries. I must find my young friend.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart: We'll speak soon, old chap. To all of you, I hope.

comments

My born day...and other cool things

The following is a diary of sorts of cat_77's and my vacation this past weekend. Cool pics can be found at both her site and my home site of Wolfie's World

January 14th:
We are now at Cascade Lodge in the middle of nowhere UpNorth Minnesota. (yes, that is one word here in the midwest) There are no gas stations. There are no grocery stores. This is no cell phone service.

It’s sheer and utter bliss!

cat_77 brought me up here for my birthday weekend. We left before the demon spawn even headed off to school. There was only a bit of snow on the way up, otherwise even with the overcast sky the driving was pretty clear.

It’s mostly an old hunting lodge, with cabins arranged on the property for guests. There are also rooms in the main lodge, game room with pool and table tennis, restaurant, and evidently WIFI that cat_77 can get from our room/cabin. It’s a small cabin but cozy and right next to the trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

After dropping off our gear in the room I talked cat_77 into going on a short trek using the snowshoes I brought up with me. I haven't been shoeing in almost a decade. cat_77 hasn't been since she was three. It was...interesting. I was told several times that I was insane for dragging us out, but also that it was beautiful out on the ‘trail’. I use that term loosely as we could neither find the actual trail we were supposed to be on nor did we really keep to a strait line.

That’s right folks, even while snowshoeing and enjoying the great out doors in the winter, we can’t be strait.

After heading back and having sipping chocolate in our cabin cat_77 fell asleep and I went off to try and find some ridge that has a beautiful overlook. Didn’t find the trail to the ridge and didn’t want to be out any later since it was getting close to dusk, but I did manage to find freshly killed wildlife and a wolf.

Many pictures have been taken. Hoping they turn out and that the wolf shows up that I took while standing in an outdoor chapel. Back at the cabin now and waiting for dinner. Dark as hell out and perfectly quiet. Sigh. Bliss.

January 15th:

Today’s breakfast consisted of Chef Boyardee Ravioli in a microwave. Don’t knock it till you try it. We didn’t have to rush dressing and had some quiet time in the cabin to ourselves with our morning drinks (cat_77 favors mochas, I’m a more muddy black coffee person) and listened to our neighbors and their morning activities.

Yes, in the new cabin which they moved us to last night after the sewer line started spewing up “stuff” into the bathroom tub. It was...interesting to say the least. We felt for the poor maintenance guy who had to come and try to unclog it. Eventually, he gave up and they moved us to a new cabin. Which is huge in comparison with a fireplace and in a more secluded area.

Now, back to the neighbors. We has them. Which, if you had been paying attention in the previous paragraph I had just said we are even more secluded than the last place. Secluded enough that we’re evidently the walk-in closet to some birds and something like a squirrel (scratching on the outer wall) to share a little house with. (shout out to Futurama).

They are fairly quiet, except when scurrying up and down the roof and outer walls. Their antics today woke us up today enough to get us going and even cat_77 to join me on a trek of long-ness up and around the state park we’re staying in.

I’m perfectly fine with the squirrely neighbors as long as we’re in this beautiful place.

January 16th

New day, new mountain to climb. It’s way bellow zero today and I was less than willing to sit still while cat_77 slept in after breakfast. Which, by the way, was microwave mac&cheese along with coffee and cocoa. Odd choice but I’ve had worse when camping in the actual great outdoors when just trying to get enough calories in to keep up with my activity.

Hence leading me to the ‘conquering my own mountain’ thing. I dressed with more layers than a bear and ended up striping down to a vest and snow pants. The whole trip took about four hours for 3.3 km and 1200 mi strait up a hill to one of the most beautiful views imaginable. Did I also mention that I haven't turned my cell phone on sine leaving home friday morning. Or checked me email.

Then, cat_77 fed me a really large meal. There was a huge piece of chocolate cake. And beer. Awesome day. Really, really.

comments

Projects for 2011

I've got big plans so far this year. They involve anarchy and computers...but not necessarily in that order.

My partner, cat_77, has just wandered off after watching me work on the computer which also serves as our home server shaking her head and muttering. I'm sure it's part of some affliction she's been developing over the past ten years. I think it started some time around our second date. Or at least that's when I began to notice it.

Currently, after updating the aforementioned server, I got the original web page for cat_77 back online. You can find that here. My new web page, the one I created after messing around with our <s>borrowed</s> software, is now up and working as well. That's located here. I'll be transferring some of the podcasts I'd worked on earlier this year there since it will be easier to work with and store them there.

The next project involves old tech and yet another web page. It all depends on funds currently and tracking down the hardware to do it with. Think iPad grandfather. I'm getting my geek on this year people and no one can stop me!

comments

Not done yet with the whole story but reached the 50k mark just now.
And It Begins!

It's that time of year again. The insanity of NanoWrimo 2010, with both cat_77 and I participating.

I took the day off today after Samhain and got a start. I'm at 3,500 before dinner and I still want to do a few thousand more before bed.

Not sure if the boys are participating this year or if they've completely forgot in the midst of being able to trick-or-treat for the first time in years since we were in the city for once. It was so strange not to take them door to door either since they are now both old enough to go in groups. With other kids. As in just kids. As in nothing adult connected but a cell phone and the sense we've hammered into them over the years.

comments

Rizzoli&Isles Fan Fic: Better Than Ice Cream

Last one for now till I finish the last two episodes and write a bit more. Thanks for reading.

Title: Better Than Ice Cream
Author: wolfie74
Fandom: Rizzoli & Isles
Characters: Jane Rizzoli, Maura Isles
Rating: PG
Word Count : 340
Summary: As a comfortable warmth settled over her Maura thought this was much better than ice cream.
Episode Outtake: Born To Run

( Better Than Ice Cream )

comments

Rizzoli&Isles Fan Fic: Blame The Dog

The episode "I Kissed A Girl" bugged me in some ways. There seemed to be something missing between Jane's and Maura's sleep over and the sting operation the next night. While my fics have for the most part set at the end of the episodes I needed to write this scene to close things up a bit.

Title: Blame The Dog
Author: wolfie74
Fandom: Rizzoli & Isles
Characters: Jane Rizzoli, Maura Isles
Rating: PG
Word Count : 480
Summary: Jane wondered briefly if this was actually what best friends did. The whole sleeping on top of someone who she wasn't dating was a new thing.
Episode Outtake: I Kissed A Girl

( Blame The Dog )

comments

Rizzoli&Isles Fan Fic: Tag Backs

Yet another catchup story. I had originally wrote one for each episode, so I apologize that they are all being posted now.

Title: Tag Backs
Author: wolfie74
Fandom: Rizzoli & Isles
Characters: Jane Rizzoli, Maura Isles
Rating: PG
Word Count : 287
Summary: To Jane’s viewpoint it wasn’t just about “Rich versus Poor”. It was more about the world versus Jane Rizzoli.
Episode Outtake: Money for Nothing

( Tag Backs )

comments

Rizzoli&Isles Fan Fic: Jane for Jane

Catching up on posting of all of these now that my beta had a chance to catch up with editing. This comes as a 'missing scene from She Works Hard for The Money. Jane's just pugnacious enough to almost pull herself through. Maura always helps *g*

Title: Jane for Jane
Author: wolfie74
Fandom: Rizzoli & Isles
Characters: Jane Rizzoli, Maura Isles
Rating: PG-13
Word Count : 557
Summary: Street smarts is what people said.
If you listen closely you can hear the sound of my brain draining out of my ears

The end of work is neigh upon me right now and it's none too soon. Ever since cat_77's grandmother passed away on sunday I've not been too with it.

It just took me 7 tries to get the correct number and extension correct for an order this afternoon. At this point I'm glad I haven't had to cook too much since I would have probably poisoned someone.

Also, not sure sleep will help much. Ah well, at least dinner tonight is a "throw it in the oven" sort of meal.

comments

Bleh!

I am at home trying to get more sleep and recover from what ever the heck has laid me low. The street that I live on is evidently not a quiet place during the day and my ADHD has decided that even illness will not allow me to stay still.

Also, daytime television sucks.

I need to post my Rizzoli&Isles stories but they aren't betaed yet. I need to watch the next episode so that I can start the next story but my concentration is blown.

Sickness sucks.

Okay, I'm done ranting now.

comments

A kick in your rubber balls

And now an open letter to the city of Minneapolis.

Dear usually beloved city that I live in,

Today you made me a left-wing-hippy-liberal-freak. Though it hadn't fully sunk in when we received the letter that our several hundreds year old tree was going to be torn down (quite possibly due to shock), I did note at the time that your damage to said tree with a PICK AX did not help the health of the tree.

Now, one week latter, I come home to see a giant gaping hole in the tree line where the only shade that covers two houses to either side plus my own. The moment where I am sure my hispanic tanned face became more white than my caucasian baby's mama's was about the same moment your evilness was finally revealed to me.

I hate you Minneapolis and your two faced ways. You can go jump off the Hennepin Ave bridge into the turbines below to get chopped up, much as you did to my tree.

Thanks for nothing,

A pissed off Wolfie

comments

Why pickles suck, and other adventures of a chef

Today was one of the rare days I have in which I'd like nothing better than to go home and drink my self silly till either: a) realize that at some point I do have to go back to work *shudder*, b) think of all the poor winos out there who don't have any alcohol of their own and feel guilty, or c) remember I actually like the taste of the booze I buy and don't want to experience it on the way up.

The only real part that stands out most in my mind, perhaps brought on by the lingering smell as I walked home and now sit here typing this, is what will hence be known as the Pickle Incident that occurred in the walk-in cooler. If you are not aware, in the food service industry we use very large containers. Probably on par with what the Duggar family needs to buy in order to feed their demon hoard.

Needless to say, an almost full container of pickles (plus juice!) spilled all over the walk-in floor. It also spilled in to my shoe. Probably since at the time I was standing in the middle of the walk-in floor. The floor is clean, if not a bit vinegar smelling. My shoes, not so much. And yes, they smell like vinegar too.

Yeah.

comments
