The episode "I Kissed A Girl" bugged me in some ways. There seemed to be something missing between Jane's and Maura's sleep over and the sting operation the next night. While my fics have for the most part set at the end of the episodes I needed to write this scene to close things up a bit.

Episode Outtake: I Kissed A Girl

The middle of the night is a strange time for deep thoughts. Peaceful quiet settled around the room, and the gentle breathing of its occupants was only occasionally overlaid by the sounds of the city outside the bedroom window. Moonlight streamed in through the window and reflected in Jane Rizzoli's eyes as she lay quietly, listening to the heartbeat of the woman under her.

The laptop, still open to the dating web site, sat on the bedside table. Its screen was dimmed but Jane could see the outline of her companion's face in the soft glow. Her eyes still trying to focus, Jane studied the woman upon whose shoulder she rested. The soft scent from her perfume also drifted into the detective's senses, its familiarity both calming and soothing.

They had been talking. Although if hard pressed Jane couldn’t recall just what the last thing she'd contributed the conversation what she had contributed to the conversation last. Likewise, she had no further clue as to the last thing Maura had been talking about. All Jane could remember was lying back on her bed with Maura beside her going on and on about different types of lesbians and how important it was to match Jane's type.

Now here it was, the middle of the night. The dark haired woman found her thoughts scattered all over the place. It was too early in the morning to worry about whether or not Maura was a femme or a lipstick type, and why should she care in the first place. Currently Jane's subconscious only seemed concerned that Maura made an excellent pillow.

Jane wondered briefly if this was actually what best friends did. The whole sleeping on top of someone who she wasn't dating was a new thing. The detective briefly considered her options as her sleep-riddled mind tried to make sense of the position she'd woken to find herself in.

First off, she could just go back to sleep and pretend that making a body pillow out of Maura was the most natural thing in the world. Two, and Jane seriously wondered at her sanity on this one, she could jump up yelling "fire" and aim to confuse the sleeping coroner too much for her to ask questions about their rather familiar sleeping habits. Three, she could blame Joe Friday who completed the scene of perfect domestic bliss that Jane's mind just refused to travel down by curling up at the foot of the bed and resting her furry little chin on Maura's ankle.

Sleep was pulling Jane back down once more and plan A, or whatever she had dubbed it, was beginning to sound like the best bet. Besides, if worse came to worse she could still blame the dog's nocturnal habits somehow. So, giving in to the comforting warmth of the other woman, Jane drifted off to sleep once more.
