Episode Outtake: Boston Strangler Redux

The first one soothed her throat nicely as she practically chugged it down. The second one started to help the tremors in her hands that she was sure her companion had to have noticed. The third and fourth, those made the all over body soreness start to fade away. The fifth and sixth, well that was just because.

Now Jane Rizzoli was trying to calculate just how many rounds they had drank as she counted the small blurry paper animal things marching up the middle of the table. Maura Isles, coworker some how turning into one very good friend, had been matching her drink for drink. Somewhere along the way she had decided to try and teach Jane the art of origami. Or at least as close as they could get from the slightly soggy and frayed beer bottle coverings Jane had peeled off her drinks.

Jane turned her slightly squinty gaze from the drooping penguin to peer over at her tablemate. Maura’s hair spilled over her crossed arms as her head rested at a rather odd looking angle. A soft snore rose from somewhere among all the silky curls making Jane giggle slightly.

This new and slightly strange friendship that had developed between the two of them made the erstwhile detective rather nervous. Jane Rizzoli never socialized much with co-workers out side of work. Jane never socialized much with any one. Period.

It wasn’t as if she couldn’t make friends. She had plenty, right? There was Korsak and Frost and.... Well, okay. So work was her friend. That was okay, wasn’t it? She was a great cop, one of the best in Boston. Wasn’t anything wrong with being so into your work. Right?

Another snore, rather loud and certainly not so delicate came from Maura making Jane smile. She motioned a waitress over and ordered a carafe of coffee, and a pitcher of water for herself. Determined to start the sobering up process. As the waitress hurried off to bring back Jane’s order, the dark haired woman reached over to try and smooth some of the long blondish brown locks off of her friend’s face.

“Rest easy, lady. I’ll watch over you.”
